Human Resource Management (5 days)


This workshop is for new and experienced supervisors as well as high potential future supervisors.Participants will gain supervisory skills while learning all aspects of Federal human resource management.

This class bridges the science of management and the art of leadership while allowing participants to build a solid foundation in human resource functions, including position management, classification, staffing, recruitment (including off-the-street hiring authorities, diversity recruitment strategies and assessment questionnaire strategies), performance management, dealing with poor performance, leave administration and conduct and discipline.

It will also prepare participants to utilize basic team building and conflict management skills in the workplace.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, the participant should:

  • Understand and be able to perform supervisory responsibilities in hiring, classification and position management
  • Apply the Merit System Principles in recruitment, selection and day-to-day supervision of employees
  • Be prepared to carry out supervisory responsibilities in performance management, rewarding and motivating employees, conduct and discipline and controlling absenteeism to improve individual and organizational effectiveness
  • Gain practical strategies for creating a positive work environment.
